Montego Bay is the beating heart of Jamaica’s "Gold Coast," a corridor defined by legendary resorts, championship golf courses, and a vibrant cultural energy. Unlike the secluded quiet of the outer islands, "MoBay" offers a dynamic mix of activity and relaxation. It serves as the primary gateway for travelers heading to the exclusive enclaves of Round Hill and The Tryall Club.
Visitors fly here to access the island’s most established luxury infrastructure. From the moment you land, the experience is one of polished service and historic grandeur, with easy access to the Georgian architecture of Falmouth, the manicured fairways of Rose Hall, and the protected waters of the Marine Park.

Sangster International (MBJ/MKJS) is the primary entry point for Jamaica's north coast. While the commercial side is hectic, private charters utilize the IAM Jet Centre, a world-class FBO that offers privacy and rapid customs clearance. For departure, Miami-Opa Locka (OPF) remains the standard for executive travel, though all South Florida hubs are viable.

Arriving Montego Bay
Montego Bay, Jamaica
A landscape of colonial great houses, white sand, and Blue Mountains.
Montego Bay is geographically blessed, sitting in a protected bowl surrounded by lush hills. The "Hip Strip" (Gloucester Avenue) offers shops and nightlife, but the true luxury lies just outside the city limits. To the west are the private villa communities of Hanover Parish; to the east lies the historic Rose Hall corridor. The water here is famously calm, protected by the Montego Bay Marine Park, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling directly off the beach.
The Jamaican Dollar (JMD) is the local currency, but US Dollars are accepted almost universally in resort areas. English is the official language, spoken with the distinct Jamaican patois. Traffic in downtown Montego Bay can be heavy; we strongly recommend pre-arranged private transfers rather than rental cars, especially given the left-side driving laws and aggressive local driving style.
The flight from Miami is a quick over-water hop, rarely exceeding 90 minutes. Because the flight is short, heavy jets are generally unnecessary unless passenger count demands it. A light jet like the Phenom 300 or a Midsize Citation Excel provides the perfect balance of speed and comfort. The runway at MBJ is fully commercial-grade, meaning there are no weight restrictions for any class of private aircraft.
December through April is the dry season and the peak for social activity. The weather is consistently warm and breezy. May and November are "shoulder season" months that offer excellent value and fewer crowds. We monitor tropical weather closely from August to October, though Montego Bay's position on the north coast often protects it from the direct brunt of storms passing to the south.
Experiences defined by history and adrenaline.
This 2,200-acre property is more than a resort; it's a private community of villas anchored by one of the Caribbean’s most prestigious golf courses. It hosts an annual pro-am tournament and offers a level of service where dedicated staff (cooks, maids, gardeners) are standard with every villa rental.
Located on a high ridge overlooking the ocean, this restored 18th-century plantation house is famous for the legend of the "White Witch," Annie Palmer. Night tours offer a theatrical glimpse into the island’s colonial past, blending history with folklore in a setting that remains architecturally stunning.
A short drive from the city, this is Jamaica’s most iconic quiet adventure. You sit on a 30-foot bamboo raft guided by a "Raft Captain" who poles you down three miles of river. It offers a serene counterpoint to the coastal energy, passing through dense rainforest canopies.
Founded in 1906, this private beach club is the anchor of the "Hip Strip." Famous for its spring-fed waters which were once rumored to have curative powers, it remains the most civilized way to enjoy the public coastline, offering restricted access, club amenities, and pristine white sands.
Often, no. This is the most common logistical surprise. The helicopters used for the transfers (typically Bell 206 or 407s) have very limited cargo space. If you are a group of 4 with hard-shell luggage and golf clubs, the passengers will fly, but we will likely need to send your luggage via a separate ground transport van, which will arrive at your villa about 90 minutes after you do.
Generally, no. Unlike some private airports in the US or Europe, Jamaican security regulations strictly prohibit private vehicles on the tarmac at Sangster International. You will step off the plane, walk a few yards to the IAM Jet Centre lounge to clear immigration (which takes minutes), and meet your driver at the curbside entrance of the FBO.
We advise against it. Jamaica has extremely strict agricultural laws. Customs officers at the private terminal frequently confiscate fresh meat, fruit, and vegetables unless you have a specific import permit obtained weeks in advance. We recommend utilizing a high-end provisioning service (like those offered by Tryall or Round Hill) to stock your kitchen before arrival.
The distance is short (10–12 miles), but the drive can be deceptive. The route takes you through the outskirts of Montego Bay, and during Friday afternoon rush hour or days with multiple cruise ships in port, a 20-minute drive can become a 50-minute crawl. We always check the cruise calendar when scheduling your ground transfer.
Yes. At top-tier courses like The Tryall Club, White Witch, and Cinnamon Hill, caddies are mandatory, not optional. They are exceptionally skilled and integral to the experience. While the caddie fee is often included in your green fees, the tip is not — we recommend carrying cash (USD is fine) to tip your caddie directly at the end of the round.
