Saint Lucia is defined by the Pitons — two volcanic spires rising 2,500 feet from the sea — creating one of the most visually stunning landscapes in the Caribbean. It is a destination of rainforests, drive-in volcanoes, and ultra-luxury resorts like Jade Mountain. However, the island's mountainous terrain makes ground travel slow, and the main commercial airport (Hewanorra) is located on the southern tip, which is a 90-minute winding drive from the northern resorts.
Chartering a private jet transforms this arrival. By flying into Hewanorra on your own schedule, you bypass the often-chaotic commercial customs queues. More importantly, private arrival allows for a seamless "wing-to-rotor" transfer — stepping off your jet and directly onto a waiting helicopter — turning a 90-minute drive into a majestic 10-minute scenic flight to your resort.

Hewanorra International (UVF) is the main entry point for private jets. Located on the southern tip, its 9,000-foot runway handles all aircraft types, from light jets to massive ultra-long-range VIP airliners. George F. L. Charles (SLU), located in the north near Castries, is much closer to some resorts but has a short 5,700-foot runway restricted primarily to turboprops and inter-island flights. For a direct flight from Miami, UVF is the standard choice.

Immerse yourself in the rainforests and volcanic wonders of the Helen of the West Indies.
Saint Lucia is famous for its Sulphur Springs, billed as the world's only "drive-in volcano," where visitors can soak in therapeutic mud baths. Nature lovers hike the Tet Paul Nature Trail for panoramic views or explore the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens in Soufrière, an 18th-century estate featuring a mineral-rich waterfall.
The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD), though USD is widely accepted. Driving is on the left side of the road. Because the roads are winding and mountainous, travel times are long; a drive of only 20 miles can take over an hour. Taxis or private drivers are recommended over rental cars for comfort.
From Miami, the flight is approximately 1,300 nautical miles. While a light jet (like a Citation CJ3+) can make the trip non-stop, a mid-size or super-midsize jet (like a Challenger 350) offers significantly more luggage space for golf clubs or extended stay luggage and a more spacious cabin for the 3.5-hour duration.
Peak season is mid-December to April, offering dry, sunny weather. The Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival in May is a major draw. Hurricane season is June through November, though the island's southern location often spares it from direct hits compared to the northern Caribbean.
The Peaks of the Caribbean
A UNESCO World Heritage site, these two volcanic spires are the island's most iconic landmark. Rising sharply from the ocean, they create a dramatic backdrop visible from almost anywhere in the southwest, offering challenging hikes and world-class diving at their base.
Saint Lucia has a rich history of cocoa production dating back to the 1600s. Visitors can tour working estates like the Rabot Estate to see the bean-to-bar process and even participate in "chocolate tourism" experiences, crafting their own bars.
Once a separate island used by the pirate Jamb de Bois and later the British Navy to monitor French fleets, this 44-acre reserve is now connected to the mainland by a causeway. It features 18th-century military ruins and pristine beaches.
The indigenous Amerindian heritage lives on through cassava production. Roadside bakeries across the island still produce "cassava bread" using traditional methods, a staple snack available in a variety of flavors like coconut, cherry, and saltfish.
Saint Lucia is mountainous. The main airport (UVF) is on the south end, while many resorts (like Sandals Grande or Cap Maison) are in the north. The drive can take 90 minutes to two hours on winding roads. A helicopter transfer takes just 10-15 minutes and offers spectacular views of the Pitons.
It is difficult for jets. George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) has a short runway (5,735 ft) and is surrounded by terrain and water. It is primarily used for inter-island turboprops. Most private jets from Miami will land at UVF for safety and performance reasons.
Hewanorra (UVF) can support night operations, but it is not strictly 24/7 by default for General Aviation. We can arrange after-hours clearance with prior notice, giving you flexibility if your departure from Miami is delayed or if you wish to arrive in the evening.
U.S., Canadian, and EU citizens generally do not need a visa for stays up to six weeks, only a valid passport. However, all travelers must complete an electronic immigration form prior to arrival. AvSky can assist in ensuring your documentation is pre-cleared for a smooth entry.
