Direct access to Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf islands
Charlotte Harbor is one of the largest estuaries on Florida's Gulf Coast — more than 270 square miles of protected water where the Peace River meets the Gulf of Mexico. The towns around it — Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, Englewood — are driven by fishing, boating, and seasonal residents. Boca Grande, at the mouth of the harbor, draws serious tarpon anglers every spring. Barrier islands like Cayo Costa and Cabbage Key are only reachable by boat. The Sunseeker Resort has added conference and event traffic since opening in late 2023, and between November and April the whole region runs at full capacity.
PGD sits just off I-75 with a runway long enough for anything up to a large-cabin jet, no landing fees, and a straightforward FBO operation. You're downtown in 10 minutes, at the Sunseeker in 10, and on a boat to Boca Grande or Cayo Costa within the hour. Tell AvSky what the trip looks like and we'll come back with options — light jets for a weekend of fishing, midsize for a family hauling gear to the islands, turboprops for a same-day turnaround from Tampa or Miami. Request a quote and we'll have them back to you the same day.

We fly to Punta Gorda from any airport in the world. These estimated prices are for some of the most popular charters into PGD. All estimates are based on a round-trip, Friday through Sunday itinerary. Actual quotes vary depending on factors like season, available aircraft and more. Your quoted price may be more or less than the estimates on this page.
Between tarpon season and snowbird season, Charlotte Harbor stays busy.
AvSky is headquartered at Venice Municipal Airport, just up the coast from Punta Gorda. We coordinate charters into PGD regularly — for tarpon season in Boca Grande, corporate events at the Sunseeker, seasonal residents coming south for the winter, and families staging trips to the barrier islands. When you call, you're talking to a team that knows the FBO, the drive times, and the seasonal rhythm of this part of the coast.

PGD is the default for Charlotte Harbor — it's the closest airport to downtown, Boca Grande, and the Sunseeker, and the 7,193-foot runway accommodates everything from light jets to large-cabin types like a Challenger 604 or Gulfstream G-IV.
Venice Municipal works well for clients headed to Englewood or the northern reaches of the harbor, particularly on light or midsize jets. Southwest Florida International in Fort Myers is the fallback for trips with an international customs requirement — 24 miles south with 24/7 customs.

What to expect on the ground in Charlotte Harbor.
Downtown Punta Gorda is compact — a few blocks of restaurants, galleries, and murals along the waterfront, anchored by Fishermen's Village, a marina and shopping complex on the harbor. Port Charlotte, across the water, is the commercial center of the county. Englewood has the closest direct Gulf beach access. Boca Grande, on Gasparilla Island, runs on a different rhythm — the Gasparilla Inn has been there since 1913, there are no traffic lights, and most visitors come for the fishing. Between November and April, the seasonal population roughly doubles the county's year-round base.
The barrier islands are what make ground logistics here unusual. Boca Grande is reachable by car over the causeway, but Cayo Costa, Cabbage Key, and the smaller islands require a boat — most clients launch from Fishermen's Village Marina or Ponce de Leon Park. Boca Grande-bound clients with a fishing guide are typically met dockside. For mainland driving, I-75 connects PGD to Port Charlotte, North Port, and Fort Myers in under 30 minutes. US-41 handles local traffic but it's a surface road with stoplights.
Charlotte County's charter traffic follows two overlapping cycles. Snowbird season builds from late October through January. Tarpon season starts in late April and peaks in May and June, with the World's Richest Tarpon Tournament in July as the single biggest demand event on PGD's calendar. Between those two waves — August through mid-October — aircraft pricing, FBO scheduling, and hotel rates are all at their most favorable. The Florida International Air Show at PGD can also affect ramp availability for its weekend.
Most of our Punta Gorda charter clients are headed to a boat sometime on their visit, and often within hours of landing! Fishermen's Village Marina offers transient slips, fuel, and charter boat access. Burnt Store Marina, 15 minutes south, has over 500 slips with deep-water access to the harbor and Pine Island Sound. Boca Grande's marinas are tight during tarpon season — pre-booking is essential. Fishing guide pickups typically happen out of Boca Grande, Placida, or Burnt Store.
During tarpon season — late April through July — the top Boca Grande captains are booked months in advance, and they schedule around tidal movement, not a fixed clock. Your guide may want you dockside at 5:30 AM one day and 10 AM the next. Lock in the guide first,
If you're flying in for a fishing trip with rod cases, confirm baggage dimensions with AvSky before booking the aircraft. Light jets like the CJ3 or Phenom 300 have external baggage compartments that won't accommodate 7-foot rod tubes. A midsize jet or turboprop with a cabin-accessible cargo area is usually the better fit for serious tackle.
Charlotte County has over 15 courses, but the best ones aren't open to the public. Gasparilla Golf Club on Boca Grande and Coral Creek near Placida are both private and require guest access arranged in advance. If you're staying at Sunseeker, Aileron is exclusive to resort guests — book your tee time before your flight.
From June through September, daily afternoon thunderstorms roll through Charlotte County between 2 and 5 PM — often severe, almost always short. Morning departures and arrivals are far more reliable. If your schedule allows it, plan the flight for before noon and avoid sitting on the ramp during a cell.
Yes, but it requires advance coordination. The FBO and control tower both close at 9 PM, and after-hours fuel, ground handling, and ramp access are only available if pre-arranged with PGD Air Center. If a late arrival makes sense for the trip, AvSky handles that coordination — but it's worth knowing that the airport doesn't operate the same way after dark as a staffed 24-hour facility like RSW.
There's a rental car center across from the terminal with several agencies, but inventory is limited — especially during winter and tarpon season when demand from commercial passengers competes for the same fleet. Book early or ask AvSky about private car service. The FBO can also arrange ground transport for crew and passengers on short notice.
Not really. Boca Grande is a golf-cart island — most visitors rent a cart delivered directly to their rental, and that's how you get to restaurants, the beach, and the marina. Parking for full-size vehicles is tight, especially in the village. You will need a car (or a car service) to get from PGD to the island, but once you're across the causeway, a cart is the better way to move around.
Yes, and it's a common request. A morning arrival puts you on the water by mid-morning and gives you a full day with a guide. Evening departures work, but remember the FBO closes at 9 PM — plan to be wheels-up before dark or arrange after-hours service in advance. During tarpon season, guide schedules follow the tides, so the timing may shift day to day.
Charlotte County is in the direct path of Gulf storms — Hurricane Ian (2022) and Milton (2024) both hit PGD hard, damaging hangars and flipping aircraft on the ramp. When sustained winds approach 45 mph, the tower and FBO shut down and aircraft on the ground need to be repositioned out of the area. If you're planning a trip during hurricane season (June through November), AvSky monitors forecasts and coordinates early repositioning or rerouting to RSW or SRQ if a storm develops. We'll adjust the itinerary before it becomes an emergency.
